The Caucasian Chalk Circle, a play by the German playwright Bertolt Brecht.
“A lowly young maid, displaced by conflict, rescues an abandoned baby and flees, seeking refuge in the Georgian Caucasus mountains until the war ends and her intended returns.
However, years later the baby’s unmotherly mother wants him back to claim his inheritance, and it falls to the controversial judge Azdak to resolve their dispute.
In an apparently innocent tale of love, motherhood and fate, Brecht challenges the audience to examine some of society’s core values, such as responsibilities and rights.”
